PHOTOGRAPHER JAMES GEER

James, born and raised in Melbourne, graduated from Swinburne University: Graphic Design in 1996 and started his career. After a short period in design, he followed his heart, picked up a camera and began his career as a photographer. His design background is still evident in his clean and graphic style.

In 2000, James moved to New York to further his career, during this period James worked for several leading brands and created his place in the fashion & lifestyle categories. He also exhibited in several group exhibitions.

On returning to Australia in 2003, James continued his life’s work of documenting Australian lifestyle and working as a commercial photographer. His travels have taken him all over Australia producing some of the finest representations of Australian Culture.

In 2006, James won the CCP acquisition prize for his piece titled – ‘Ecuador Road’. In the same year he exhibited in the Monster Children show, ‘Five Pockets’ and won the sponsor’s choice award for his piece titled, ‘Lull Before Storm’.

Last year he became a finalist in the National Photographic Portrait Prize, which is currently touring the country.

The last 12 months has been a high energy, exciting period for James. Managing great work and exhibiting in ‘Photo Finish’, the birth of his second child, and the creation and exhibition of his first solo show – Deep.

He has photographed amongst others; Geoffrey Rush, Rose Byrne, Michelle Monaghan, Asher Keddie, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Jessica Hart, Kat Stewart, Cut Copy, Lady Susan Renouf, Kimbra, Gyton Grantly, Washington, Daniel MacPherson, Yumi Stynes, Mark Seymour, Shaun Micallef, William Mcinnes, Jethro Cave, and Charlie Pickering.

His clients include; Monocle magazine, Hermes, Nike, Levi's, Monster Children, Tourism Japan, Sneaker Freaker, Living etc UK, Inside Out magazine, Real Living magazine, Quicksilver, Roxy, Sunday Life and The Melbourne Magazine.
